Night of Short Films: a Brooke Trantor Retrospective

Covering media for Night of Short Films: a Brooke Trantor Retrospective was an incredible experience. This event celebrated the short films of Quincy‑born filmmaker Brooke Trantor, showcasing her work in her hometown at the historic State Street Theater in Quincy, Illinois. Brooke has crafted over a decade of short films and is now developing her first feature, Maine Street, with many of these shorts exploring the resilience and humor of life’s most poignant moments.

The evening brought together film lovers, friends, and community members for a VIP hour, Hollywood‑themed refreshments, a curated screening of Brooke’s films, and a moderated Q&A where she shared stories from her journey from Quincy to Los Angeles and back again. Witnessing fans connect with her work, hear her creative process, and celebrate this retrospective was a powerful reminder of film’s ability to bring people together through storytelling.

As the event photographer, I focused on capturing the emotion, energy, and atmosphere of the night—from candid moments before the screening to the reactions in the theater and the vibrant conversations afterward. Being part of the media team alongside talented creatives gave me a deeper appreciation for Brooke’s vision and the community that rallied around her.

Brooke’s films have screened around the world and earned recognition on the festival circuit, with works like Oh, Baby! and Yours Are Mine winning multiple awards and resonating with audiences far beyond Quincy.

Brooke, thank you for trusting me to capture this incredible night. It was an honor to document your films, your vision, and the community that surrounds you. Your work inspires, and I’m grateful to have been part of sharing it.
